"Argeles' beaches are large and lovely; very busy on Sundays but otherwise, even in late August, there's plenty of space for all..."

Argeles Sur Mer is blessed with some of France's best beaches stretching over 7km of the Cote Vermaille. Several of the beaches are blue flag standard and supervised throughout the Summer months (end April to end September). For detailed information see the Tourist Website.
The following is a good summary taken from an Article in the Telegraph on the best beaches in France ...
Why go?
In a six-mile stretch, this beach has everything. To the north, it's as wide as a desert and remains much as evolution intended. Pines and scrubland distance the sands from campsites behind. You could gallop a horse round here and not hit anyone, even in August. Further south, towards the village centre, the beach beat gets much bouncier. There's funfair fun for the children, a fine prom for strolling or cycling, parkland and as many eateries selling pizza-by-the-metre as you could possibly need. It's the happiest, crowdiest of holiday atmospheres.
Then, beyond the port further south still, the flat coast sprouts hills, cliffs and coves – the dying sighs of the Pyrenees. Suddenly the seaside is rugged and intimate.
What is there to do?
Every sea-related activity short of whaling. This includes sea-kayaking, sailing, diving, fishing, windsurfing, jet-skiing, tubbing, parascending and I could go on. Argeles crams everything into summer.
The beaches can be accessed by car, taxi, tourist bus / train or bus. It is also possible to walk from Villa Failte (3.5km / circa 50mins).
