The ancient capital of Catalonia. Well worth a day (or indeed a longer) visit by car or by train (only 15 mins from Argeles train station with a 12 minute very well signposted walk into the centre of the city).
In the centre you will find the tourist office, bars, cafes and shops (boutiques to department stores) ... as well as the little tourist train which takes a 45 minute trip around the city centre passing many of the historical attractions on route.
The major tourist attractions are all within easy walking distance of the centre and train station. We would recommend that you read the excellent PO News article on Perpignan (link above) for a great introduction.
