Ferry + Car
Many still like to come across the channel by ferry and drive to the South of France. Living in Scotland we have always taken the fly drive option. The main routes South are shown in the map below : The following site summarises the main Ferry operators. It is not
a recommendation and there are many sites to choose from : |
Fly / Drive & General Driving
Fly / drive has always been our favoured option, not least because of the many available airports within 2.5 hours of Argeles Sur Mer. The roads throughout Languedoc-Roussillon are very good and with the aid of a sat-nav (highly recommended) anyone should be more than comfortable driving. It is possible to travel to / from Argeles Sur Mer and to enjoy an active holiday without the use of a car (using public transport such as trains and the 1 Euro buses instead) but we would definitely recommend a car for added flexibility. Car hire tends to be relatively inexpensive (cheapest if picking up / dropping off in Spain - although watch that your hire company doesn't charge for taking into France - most don't but you need to tell them when booking). Watch out if picking up in Spain and dropping in France or vice versa ... can be expensive. |
